Anti Bullying Week 2018
This year we celebrated our continuous hard work and success regarding anti-bullying with a range of activities during Anti-Bullying Week. Beginning on the 12th November with Odd Socks Day, students and staff showed their support and raised awareness by wearing their oddest combinations. During the week assemblies and tutor time we focussed on developing personal skills and qualities to advocate students to ‘Choose Respect’ which is the Anti Bullying Alliance theme this year.
Anti Bullying Silver Award
We have been awarded Silver Level by LCC for our work on Anti-Bullying (this is the highest level you can achieve on your first award). This award evaluates our practices and assesses how well we deal with bullying both in and out of school for all members of our school community.
During the year we have sought to raise the profile of our Anti-Bullying work and as such we updated our Anti-Bullying policy; our student council have made a student friendly charter for all classrooms; we have an Anti-Bullying area on our website that students can access if they need to know more or to report incidents of bullying; we have a dedicated team of staff from all areas who the students feel have the power for good and can resolve issues. Most excitingly of all we have elected members from each form who are our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors – all of these will be trained by the Diana Award next term to become peer champions. During Anti-Bullying Week we celebrated #AlldifferentAllequal and got a real buzz going around school about how TWS is a safe and vibrant place to be. Every member of our school has completed an E-safety course around National E-Safety Day and all understand more about cyberbullying and how to prevent it. We also completed further work on Stand Up to Bullying this term looking at how we can be inclusive and celebrate diversity at Winstanley.
Importantly this year a student survey on Anti-Bullying showed that the overwhelming majority of our students feel safe at school and don’t think that bullying is an issue for them or for others. Furthermore all of our students know what to do if they see or experience bullying and feel confident that the school will resolve issues fairly and quickly. We never tolerate bullying of any kind and will always step in and resolve it should it happen.
We are delighted to add the Silver Award to our trophy cabinet – it sums up how we uphold our SHINE values and our commitment to Supporting Others. We are truly shining brightly.

Key Stage 3
Drama at key stage 3 focuses on developing students’ ability to work as an ensemble, how to plan and use basic drama subject terminology, how to learn a short script and perform key scenes in a convincing manner with a focus on characterisation. Off stage and production skills are also developed along with the ability to successfully plan artistic visions.
Drama lessons focus on teamwork, sharing ideas, developing and sustaining character, learning subtle body language, researching possible dialogue, appropriate use of costume and props. Students work towards designing and devising their own 7-15 minute production.
Key Stage 4
Drama at key stage 4 focuses on how to create and write fully developed believable characters, using body language and compelling dialogue to create characterisation and learning to draw an audience into a scene. Evaluation of professionally produced scripts and plays develops the skills required to analyzing and evaluating characters, setting, staging, themes, costume, set design and social and historical context. In year 11 students will be expected to learn a script and perform 2 key scenes in a compelling style
Students will learn to create multiple ideas and interpretations to start a scene, to inhabit a scene, to give vital clear expositional language, to use correct body language, technical subject terminology and how to apply subject terminology to student’s own work and the work of others. Throughout the course students will undertake self and peer assessment through reviewing, clips and stills of performances. Students will begin to develop peer and self- assessment through reviewing, clips and stills of performances.
Remembrance 2018
Our theme was ‘Everyone Remembered, Everyone Included’ and we asked students to really think about people they might like to remember. All students held a two minute silence and formed the word PEACE whilst remembering the sacrifices made.
Everyone Included, Remembrance 2018
Over the next two weeks, in the run up to 11th November, we are going to remember people who are and have been affected by war and conflict
Every member of our school community will remember someone who has been affected by conflict.
We will commemorate them as a school 9th November 2018
Everyone Included.
At Winstanley we are currently planning how we will mark the centenary of the end of World War One this November.
We will be joining in with the Royal British Legion and aiming to ensure that Everyone is remembered.
This project aims to remember the fallen of World War One and everyone can join in.
